New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis admitted to SI that he thought about retiring after he tore his ACL in 2012.

“I did think about retiring,” Revis told Sports Illustrated in a cover story released this week. “I had never been seriously injured before, and I didn’t know how to handle it.”

What’s really interesting is that Revis also underwent microfracture surgery on his knee, which is often is a career-ender for NFL players.

Revis’ uncle Seean Gilbert told SI, “Most every player is thinking about retirement while he’s playing because [football is] a bona fide grind. I told him, ‘You can think that. But you’ve got to get over it.'”

Revis even admitted he didn’t feel healthy until week four or five during the 2014 season with the Patriots.
